Oban Phoenix Cinema is Rising from the ashes.

 

The cinema closed last year after months of uncertainty and was placed in the hands of a receiver, but thanks to the community campaign, together with support from patrons such as Dame Judi Dench, Robbie Coltrane, Tilda Swinton, John Hannah, Rowan Atkinson and director Bill Forsyth, the receivers were persuaded not to put the building up for auction but to allow the community time to try and raise enough money to buy the cinema and run it under community ownership for the community.

An auction was held 20th February at Cuan Mor in Oban to raise funds for the cinema and Sally Orr, a trainee solicitor with MacPhee & Partners in Oban and sometime jewellery designer with The Ringmaker created a bespoke 'Phoenix Rising' necklet design for the occasion. The unique piece was then handmade by The Ringmaker, in Sterling silver and diamond, and donated to the auction to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.
