Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an appointment to visit the studio?

Whilst we do recommend making an appointment to ensure a designer is available for you we are delighted to welcome impromptu visitors and enquiries too! We are also happy to chat with you on the phone with any questions you may have prior to visiting the studio.

Is there a charge for the design service?

Our design service is free of charge with no obligation to order. It is an enjoyable experience in our relaxed studio environment. We don’t believe in sales pressure.

Do you only design rings?

At the Ringmaker we design all types of jewellery such as pendants, earrings, bangles, brooches, cufflinks and more!

Do I need to bring anything with me when I visit The Ringmaker?

Just yourself! We have lots of images of jewellery we have made which you can browse through and we have beautiful handmade pieces to try on. If you have any images you wish to bring you are more than welcome. If you are thinking of having jewellery remodelled, please bring this along with you then we can draw designs based on the exact sizes of stones you have.

How long does the design process take?

Feel free to pop in for a quick chat to get things started. Our design service usually takes between half an hour and an hour though this can vary depending on exactly what you are looking for.

Do you redesign old or unwanted jewellery?

Yes, we specialise in remodelling - transforming your stones and metal into stunning new pieces for you to wear and enjoy. Whether you have inherited a piece of jewellery that you would like to update or have jewellery that you no longer wear we would be delighted to help. One of our designers will draw your stones in various arrangements, ranging in style from classic, contemporary or beyond.

Can I bring my own stone to The Ringmaker?

Yes of course – we can design a bespoke piece of jewellery that showcases your own stone beautifully.

What if I only have old gold to be remodelled?

Yes we are happy to remodel your own gold of any carat. At The Ringmaker we can also melt and remodel platinum or palladium.

I don’t know exactly what I’m looking for?

That is not a problem when you speak to one of our designers who will guide you through the enjoyable design process to find what you are looking for - ending with a final design to suit you perfectly.

I have something specific in mind?

At The Ringmaker we are more than happy to work to your specific requirements. One of our designers will quickly draw what you have in mind precisely to scale and will also make suggestions to suit the design. Then if you wish, we can develop your idea further as part of our interactive design process with you.

How long does it take to have a bespoke piece made?

We would recommend to allow approximately 8 to 10 weeks to make a bespoke piece depending on the design. If you have a particular date in mind we will always do our absolute utmost to accommodate your timescale - just ask us. If you are in a rush let us know and we can help.

How long prior to my wedding should I order my rings?

Lots of people have their wedding rings made well in advance of the day itself. It's entirely up to you!

What metals do you work in?

We handmake in the following metals:

  • 9ct gold (white, yellow and rose gold)

  • 14ct gold (white, yellow and rose gold)

  • 18ct gold (white, yellow and rose gold)

  • 22ct gold

  • Platinum 950

  • Palladium 950

  • Sterling silver

We can also supply titanium and zirconium rings to request.

I’m looking to surprise someone with a piece of jewellery – what should I do?

Visit The Ringmaker and speak with one of our designers who will guide you through the process to design the perfect piece of jewellery– from an engagement ring to a gift, we will get it just right. We also offer the option to present that special someone with a stone or a presentation drawing. This gives the element of surprise while allowing the recipient to be involved in choosing the design.

What if I am not sure of the finger size?

For every bespoke ring we offer one free resizing within the first two months. This will give you peace of mind.

How much does a one off bespoke piece of jewellery cost?

At The Ringmaker we pride ourselves on the ability to design to suit every budget. There is no set price list as the cost of a bespoke piece can vary depending on the finalised design and dimensions, your choice of metal and stones. This allows for flexibility to suit your budget. When we have an exact design (or two designs) that you like we will work out a precise cost in your choice of metals while you wait. At this stage you can place an order for your bespoke piece or you can arrange a further visit to The Ringmaker.

Can I set a budget?

Of course! We are more than happy to make recommendations to suit your budget and advise on the design, metal and stones. Equally you do not need to set a budget - we can design your ideal ring and work out the cost and take it from there. Everyone is different and that's exactly what we like to accommodate – don’t hesitate to let us know what you have in mind.

What payment options do you have?

There are a couple of different payment options. If you would like to pre-pay for a commission we offer a discount of 5%. Otherwise you are welcome to pay a deposit of 50% to start the work and the remaining balance on completion - however there is no discount with this option. We accept all major debit and credit cards as well as cash payments or bank transfers. We do accept card payments by telephone if this is more convenient.

Do you do repairs and valuations?

Yes, we do jewellery repairs from simple to complex - just bring your jewellery in to one of our studios and we can advise you on your options. We value all types of jewellery and provide insurance replacement documents.
