The designs for your dress ring can be as unique or unusual as you wish – there are no design limits at The Ringmaker.

The brief for this ring was to be truly fearless in design and use this stunning octagonal treated blue diamond in a contemporary way. The utterly modern result features a contrasting combination of dramatic angles and curves with a selection of round brilliant cut diamonds.

This design was brought to life in platinum using the best traditional hand making techniques alongside the very latest cutting edge technology.

This stunning ring has inspired many exciting commissions already!

A remodelling tranformation - this bespoke ring uses a combination of old and new. 

Our director John designed this ring as a surprise for his partner Janet using her grandmother's gold and diamond jewellery that she had inherited. Janet was so impressed with the ring that she is now John's wife!

John selected three new coloured stones to add to the mix for the design - a stunning oval yellow sapphire as a striking central feature, and two treated blue diamonds - one round brilliant cut and one princess cut.

John did several drawings of various arrangements of stones and shapes before selecting the final design to be expertly handmade by our team of craftsmen and women.

The finished ring is an asymmetrical piece of artwork that Janet wears everyday.

Drawing by hand using pencil and paper is integral to our design process at The Ringmaker.

While we appreciate and utilise the best of modern technology, it is very important to us not to lose the tradition of drawing - the very reason we all love to design.

This is the most intuitive and direct way for each of our designers to create. Every design can be modified at the stroke of a pencil - the possibilities are endless.

It is a very natural process that allows for interaction - a unique memorable experience.

Designs are drawn precisely to scale - combining creativity and imagination with accuracy and attention to detail.

Every design is carefully handcrafted by our team of expert craftsmen and women - each a specialist in their own particular skill and based within the UK - from Edinburgh to London.

We use a combination of traditional techniques and cutting edge technology in the creation of each bespoke design.

We allow approximately 8 to 10 weeks to handmake a unique piece of jewellery just for you. We always aim to accomodate any date you have in mind - just let us know.

We pride ourselves on the fact our craftspeople can perfectly translate our detailed drawings into a finished three dimensional form.

At The Ringmaker we offer a free design service with no sales pressure and no appointment necessary.

Relax in our studio and enjoy a tea, coffee or prosecco while speaking with one of our designers. We have a range of inspiration sources to browse – a combination of drawings, photographs and handmade pieces of jewellery. Our designers are all art school graduates with creative flair and technical knowledge and will guide you through the entire process – hand drawing beautiful designs precisely to scale in front of you.

Your designer will then work out exact costs for your chosen design. At this time an order can be placed or time can be taken to think it over and arrange a second visit. It is really that simple!

We source beautiful diamonds and unusual, coloured gemstones from all over the world especially for our customers.

We offer a free no obligation stone viewing service, tailored to your specific requirements. This is an enjoyable interactive process and adds an extra personal touch. Nothing compares to viewing a stone in person - you can appreciate its true beauty and we will show you its unique characteristics.

Our qualified stone specialist Nicola offers a wealth of expertise and knowledge in sourcing and selecting the very best stones for our customers.

If you have lost a bespoke piece of jewellery made by The Ringmaker - we have extensive archives dating back many years and can reproduce the original design as a replacement just for you.

At The Ringmaker we design and handmake every piece from scratch - from classic designs to contemporary and beyond!

The rings we make are designed especially for individuals – this has been our speciality since 1985.

We also design and handmake pendants, earrings, cufflinks and objets d'art.

We specialise in remodelling – transforming your old or unwanted stones and metal into stunning new designs. You will be amazed by the possibilities!

Our design service is free of charge - just bring your jewellery in to either our Glasgow or Edinburgh Studio.

One of our designers will draw your stones precisely to scale in a variety of arrangements from classic to contemporary or beyond! We can advise whether your metal is suitable to use in your new design and if more metal is required we can add to it if necessary.

Many of our customers remodel their jewellery for sentimental reasons with stunning effect.

If you decide to use the stones alone you can choose an alternative metal perhaps in a different colour. Then we will either return your metal or credit the scrap value against the cost of the commission. 

Based in our Glasgow and Edinburgh Studios, our designers are all art school graduates, handpicked for their technical skills and design flair. We work as a creative team and are constantly inspiring each other!

Our Glasgow Studio is only a one minute walk from the Gallery of Modern Art, in the centre of Glasgow’s cultural quarter of Royal Exchange Square and Merchant City. The bright and modern entrance to our premises in Ingram House, is opposite BoConcept and Emporio Armani. Our studio is located on the third floor of this contemporary building with both lift and staircase access.

Our Edinburgh Studio is on Dundas Street, a continuation of Hanover Street, in the heart of the art gallery quarter of the New Town.

Only a ten minute walk from Princes Street, you will find our intimate design studio on street level.
